Biografie Carlo Balmelli

Born in 1969, the Swiss-Italian “Ticino”, Carlo Balmelli, received his teaching diploma for trombone at the Conservatoire of Bern in the class of Prof. Branimir Slokar in 1991. During his further studies, he began training as a conductor in the class of Dr. med. Ewald Körner and Horst Stein in Basel, Ralf Weikert in Zurich and Gustav Kuhn in Milan.As a wind music conductor, Carlo Balmelli has been active in his home canton Ticino since 1988. As of 1991 he is the founder and principal conductor of the Orchestra di Fiati della Svizzara Italiana. In 1992 he took over the direction of the Mendrisio City Music. From 1997 to 2004 he conducted the brass band Bernese Oberland. Since 2003 he is the musical director of the music company Konkordia Egerkingen and from 2005 the city of Zurich Oerlikon Seebach.

Carlo Balmelli was also involved in the promotion of young talent, as head of the National Youth Brass Band (1995-1997), a Music Director of the Music School of the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana and as a teacher at various music schools in Ticino.
As a highly esteemed and motivated expert, he was also a member of the Executive Board of WASBE Switzerland from 2001 to 2004 and has been a member of the Music Commission of the Swiss Brass Band Association since 1998.
