Follie! - Aria of Violetta from the opera " La Traviata"

As in the opera „Rigoletto“ and “Troubadour,“ a proscribed person is central to the plot of the opera “La Traviata”, which means “The way of the Lost“ in English. Francesco Maria Piave was the author of the libretto, the contents of “the Lady of the Camellias“ is based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas.

The Verdi’s opera was premiered in 1853 in Venice. The main character of the plot is the classy prostitute Violetta, who is suffering from tuberculosis. Violetta meets, Alfredo Germont, the love of her life at a party. After both have lived for a short time together, Violetta left Alfredo and returned back to Baron Douphol to protect Alfredo. In the end, Violetta dies from her illness, Alfredo who she loved, without ever being with him. In the aria Follie! (Foolishness), at the end of the first act, Violetta is seized by doubt and describes her feelings as foolish.
