De Falla worked on the ballet piece “El Sombrero des los tres Picos” during his second major creative period (1914 – 1920). At the premiere of this opera, important artists of that time were involved: Pablo Picasso created the stage curtain, the costumes and the stage design named the “Ballet Russe” that took care of the staging, as for Ernest Ansermet that was prior for the musical direction. The ballet creates the story of a beautiful miller, her jealous but clever husband and Corregidor, an elderly provincial governor whose dignity is manifested in the tricorne. The Corregidor desires the beautiful miller but is led and deceived by this and her husband.
